Tux
Started At-Home Diabetic Alert Service Dog
Labrador Retriever
2 years old
53lbs
Tux is a started service dog, which means he's still in training. While he can be excitable around other dogs, we've found that he would thrive best as an at-home service dog. Because of this, he will be offered at a reduced cost. Tux is progressing quickly and excelling in diabetic alert work, and he's now ready to be matched and tailored to a specific handler. We're open to placing him with either an adult or a child.

He is available to the client who is the best fit; this is not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tux's Story
Tux is a lovable 2 year old Labrador that was recused from Shelter from the Storm. He is being trained as a diabetic alert dog and is making great strides. While he is progressing well and eager to please, his enthusiasm for other dogs make him best suited for an at-home service dog role. Tux is sweet, affectionate, and always ready to join in- weather it's relaxing, working from home, or playing in the yard. We are seeking a home with no other pets as we feel their presence tends to distract him from his job. He loves playtime with dog friends (maybe too much!) and we will encourage his new handler to continue this outlet for him. His cost is reduced due to his placement without public access skills.

Bluey's Story
Bluey was pulled from Shelter From the Storm in January of 2025. She was pulled from Milwaukee Animal Control and was picked up as a stray. She had been hit by a car and sustained a large laceration to her front leg. She has hip and elbow x-rays that do not show signs of dysplasia or concerns that her injury will have issues long term. She is a speedy learner and has mastered skills in very few repetitions. She truly loves to learn and work and we are looking for a handler committed to participating in activities that she will enjoy long term. We do not know if Bluey has ever lived in a home, but she did come to us with many tricks so we believe she did at some point. She is friendly with other dogs, and loves people. She has not been tested with cats or other small animals. Bluey is a large dog and will need someone committed to making sure she has outlets for her energy.
