Volunteer

Volunteers are the bread and butter of our organization! Without their help:

  • the dogs have a higher cost

  • the dogs are less experienced

  • we have less funding

  • our reach is much smaller

  • and so much more!

We appreciate support in any way you can. If you have skills that aren't listed below please reach out to us and let us know how you can support our mission.

Have experience writing grants? We would love to partner with you!

Dog Outing Handlers

Take a service dog in training to the movies, thrift shopping or whatever your heart desires. The dogs learn how to work with a new handler and get more outings than normal. This volunteer position is reserved for those with dog handling experience. For aspiring trainers, this is a great opportunity to gain hours for your CPDT (or similar) exams and gain experience. We will provide instruction on how each dog works, the expectations of the outing and how to handle any issues. Handlers must be over the age 0f 18 and have their own transportation.

Approved volunteers may be able to take dogs on different types of outings depending on dog and handler experience:

  • Hikes - take a prospect or SDiT on a nature walk. Support their work in loose leash walking and seeing distractions.

  • Pet Friendly spaces - take a prospect on an acclimation outing by letting them experience new sights, sounds and smells.

  • Non-Pet Friendly spaces - (Reserved for Highly Experienced Volunteers) learn to handle a SDiT in public spaces and support their skills while they learn to work with a new person.

Reach out with any questions. The dogs are excited to meet you!
