Task Training

Task training focuses on building behaviors that your dog can perform in order to actively mitigate the impact of your disability on your life. Performing trained tasks defines a service animal, so task training really is the beating heart of what we do at Medi-Dogs.

Typically, teams begin task training once they have passed the Readiness Test, though the timing may be slightly different for dogs in our board & train and day training programs. However, at-home service dogs may begin task training right away.

Task training can take place during owner training lessons or while your dog is at our facility for board & train or day training. There is no separate pricing scale for task training.

Examples of tasks dogs can be trained to perform:

  • Trained medical alert (blood glucose, seizure, migraine, cardiac)

  • Medication retrieve

  • Other item retrieves to provide medical or mobility assistance

  • Pressing buttons

  • Locating a phone to call for help

  • Deep pressure therapy

  • Behavior interruptions

Please review our other services, as well as our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about tasks. We look forward to supporting you on your service dog training journey!
